Iowa College Aid Will Guarantee New FFELP Loans Through June 30, 2010

As you know, the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 (HCERA), Public Law  111-152, ends new loan originations under the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program beginning with loans that are guaranteed and first disbursed on or after July 1, 2010.  Federal Stafford, Parent PLUS, and Grad PLUS loans with a first disbursement date on or after July 1, 2010, must be originated through the William D. Ford Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program.  Also, Consolidation loans disbursed on or after July 1, 2010, must be made through the Direct Loan Program.

New FFELP Loans Must Have a First Disbursement Date No Later Than June 30

Lenders must issue the first disbursement of a FFELP loan no later than June 30, 2010.  If a school transmits a loan with a first disbursement date on or before June 30, receives a successful guarantee from Iowa College Aid by June 30, but for any reason the lender cannot issue the loan's first disbursement until July 1 or after, the loan's guarantee will be void.
